First step: B language evaluation
Korean-English Interpretation and Translation (tested through short answer questions)
TYPE- Listening : 10 questions (Questions are given from a variety of sources ranging from speeches and news reports to lectures and casual conversations)
- Reading : 10 questions (Questions are given from a wide spectrum of reading materials)
Korean-Chinese Interpretation and Translation (tested through short answer questions)
TYPE : A language: Korean, B language: Chinese- A into B: Summarizing Korean listening materials into Chinese
- B into A: Summarizing Chinese listening materials into Korean
- B summary into B: Summarizing Chinese listening materials into the same language
Korean-Japanese Interpretation and Translation (tested through short answer questions)
TYPE : A language: Korean, B language: Japanese- A into B: Summarizing Korean listening materials into Japanese
- B into A: Summarizing Japanese listening materials into Korean
- B summary into B: Summarizing Japanese listening materials into the same language
Second step
01. Translation
Korean-English Interpretation and Translation (Six questions / 80 minutes)- Translation (A language: Korean, B language: English): A into B (Two questions), B into A (Two questions)
- Essay questions: Two questions
Korean-Chinese/Japanese Interpretation and Translation (Four questions / 60 minutes)
- Translation (A language: Korean, B language: Chinese or Japanese): A into B (Two questions), B into A (Two questions)
Objective: Testing applicants’ language abilities and capability in understanding current affairs
02. Interview and oral test
- SUFS evaluates applicants’ command of B language, understanding on current affairs and their potential of being an interpreter or a translator.
- Sight translation and mock interpretation test: A into B, B into A
