AB Language Enhancement Practice I, II

This course provides in-depth knowledge and concepts specific to the needs of students of translation and interpretation. It helps students acquire and learn terminologies and expressions specific to various subjects in both A and B languages. In addition, students are exposed to various types of written texts of subjects discussed in class to let them learn how terminologies and expressions are actually used. Through these lessons students will be well prepared to translate or interpret materials on an ever-growing variety of subjects.


Introduction to Consecutive Interpretation I A-B / B-A

This course provides an introduction to basic concepts and general frameworks for consecutive interpretation. It helps students learn and improve their note-taking skills, voice management techniques and emphasizing presentable performance on stages. Students are required to analyse the original message and streamline this message to effectively convey the key message in the target language in a logical manner.


Consecutive Interpretation I, II A-B / B-A

This course helps students enhance their consecutive interpretation skills. Students learn how to analyze the source language message while rendering its coherent version in the target language with correct grammar and style. Type of themes dealt in Consecutive Interpretation I are politics and economics, and themes for Consecutive Interpretation II are focused in science and IT.


Consecutive Interpretation in Specific Areas III, IV A-B / B-A

Sight translation allows students to build up the basic foundation for studying simultaneous translation as sight translation course require students to translate the message into the target language as he/she reads the source text. Students can gain flexibility and ability to extemporaneously respond to various source texts.

Materials used for this course will be leveled up and students are asked to sight translate much complex and longer sentences. Successful student should be able to perform with style with utmost accuracy. Moreover, students are required to research about subjects that will be dealt for each class. This allows them to gain general knowledge of many subjects and get exposed to subject-specific expressions and styles employed in such texts.


Advanced B language Enhancement I, II

A native speaker instructor will assist students to reinforce his/her B language abilities by exposing students to various types of written materials


Special Lecture on Specialized Theme

Interpreters & Translators working on special areas for several years teach concept, terminology, current issues, etc via on-line. This course offers students to understand actual issues, concepts and vocabularies used in certain fields.


Public speech

This course is designed to enhance and develop students' presentation skills and to alleviate stage fright while refining fluency and accuracy in the language. All course work is conducted strictly in B Language at an advanced level under the guidance of a native speaker instructor. Aside from making presentations students are required to enhance their B language abilities by analysing and discussing current affairs as well.


Sight Translation

Sight translation serves as a foundation for good simultaneous translation. Students are required to interpret the source text as they segment sentences by reading the text spontaneously.


Discussion on Current issues I, II (Conducted in B language)

This course provides students with the opportunity to consider current world issues. Discussion and debate of such issues are the main focus of this course to help students understand and debate current affairs and problems faced by the world today.

Students are required to research about subjects/topics to be discussed in class and employ critical listening and thinking during the whole course of class. This course thus offers the opportunity for students to refine their B language to the most advanced level.


Simultaneous Interpretation I ( A-B / B-A)

This course provides students with basic strategies and techniques necessary for simultaneous interpretation. It helps students develop the ultra-high level of concentration and message analysing skills necessary for listening while speaking at the same time. At the end of the course, students are expected to interpret difficult speeches in professional settings. Students are required to build up summarising skills based on the logic of the original text and also accumulate their own glossaries.


Simultaneous Interpretation II, III for Specific Areas A-B / B-A

This course provides students with crucial practical knowledge for simultaneous interpretation. Students learn text preparation strategies and efficient use of text materials. The topics congruent with current market demand for interpretation are the main focus of this course. Students will be able to refine their simultaneous interpretation performance by intensive training to become professional international conference interpreters.


Basic Translation A-B / B-A

This course provides an introduction to basic concepts and general conceptual frameworks for translation. Students will learn ways to identify, analyze, and resolve translation problems while developing a rational approach to translation. They will also be given actually translated texts in the fields of politics, economics, social/cultural/medical issues to learn how general frameworks for translations are actually employed in translation processes.


Technical Translation, Media Translation, Economy & Industry Translation, Legal & Political Translation A-B / B-A

Through this course students get exposed to materials for translation in the real business world. Such materials include trade contracts, legal documents, press release, and various approval documents forms from the government, cash flow statements, resolutions, advertisement, patent documents and financial statements. Students are required to translate these documents from Korean to English and employ translation techniques they learnt in class. Students are also required to participate in peer editing and group works to learn from their group members as well.

Plus, this course put emphasis on translating various video materials as demand for such translation is increasing in the market. Source video materials include documentaries, films, and animations.


Supervised Thesis Research

This course aims at supporting students successfully complete their graduation thesis under supervision of his/her academic advisor.
